White Men of Privilege

The concept “white men of privilege” is used in society today to describe the covert privileges that come with being a white person. I say covert because most of these privileges are hidden but do take place in our society. For example racial discrimination in the workforce, something we are all aware of when a white person with equal qualification as a person with color is hired solely because they are white. It’s sad to say this, but I do agree with this concept. Even though many Caucasians may deny the advantages they receive for being white, it does happen whether they want it to or not. Many minorities including myself  sometimes experience the disadvantages of not being white on a daily basis. However, when it comes to the “white men of privilege” experiencing the advantages they receive, many don’t see because it is kind of a given to them. What I want to be clear to whites that may be reading this, is that it doesn’t make you a bad person because you receive these privileges. I feel this is why many whites deny this concept, because it puts them in an awkward position, basically saying “I am at an advantage because I’m white.” But, the truth is by default whites receive benefits because of their skin color, whether they want to or not in our society today.
