I feel a consultant
or an observer can be very useful and helpful when it comes to small groups. To
me I really feel they are a very important factor in helping the group reach
its full potential. The books sates that having an appropriate observer can
give the group “excellent insights”. To me I think it’s also just always good
to have another opinion when it comes to any issues or problems you may go
through in a small group. The observer to me takes somewhat of an omniscient role when it comes to overseeing
small groups. They provide feedback on the things that the group may not recognize
and also give unbiased constructive criticism to the group. Being part of a group process you can be so intertwined
with what’s going on, that you can’t see some issue that can be detrimental to
reaching the ultimate goal of the group. This is where I feel an observer is
the most helpful.
